Students are expected to be able to ...-add, subtract, multiply and divide decimals up to the thousandths place.
-students must be able to use models or drawings to explain my work.
Strategies: Area model, Number Line model, distributive method, CRA (Concrete, Representative, Abstract) Example of concrete- using base ten blocks. Example of Representative- drawing a picture to represent the equation or expression. Example of Abstract- "traditional" way of solving problems (.2 x .5 = .10)
Teacher notes: Through Common Core students are asked to understand the why problems work and how the solutions make sense. Emphasis is not placed on solving the "traditional" way using the abstract equation format, but rather through different strategies to ensure students can understand how to solve any problem when varying from the "cookie cutter" format.
